  • Estate administration

I am a Senior Associate in our Lymington office, part of the Private Wealth & Tax team, with expertise in Estate Administration.

I act for people appointed as executors by a will or, where there isn’t a will, then the person who is entitled under the intestacy rules to administer the estate. I help clients obtain the grant of representation which gives them the legal authority to deal with the estate administration. This involves collating all the information relating to the assets and liabilities of the deceased, claiming the relevant exemptions and reliefs and calculating any Inheritance Tax that may be payable. I can prepare the necessary forms that need to be sent to HMRC and the Probate Registry which then enable the grant of representation to be issued. Once the grant has been obtained, I can help the personal representatives with regard to the encashment of the assets and settlement of the liabilities and expenses, the preparation of estate accounts and the distribution of the estate to the beneficiaries.

Since qualifying as a solicitor in 1993 I have spent my entire legal career dealing with private client matters which has involved, amongst other matters, the drafting of wills, Inheritance Tax planning, trust work, the preparation of Lasting Powers of Attorney and estate administration.

Outside of the office I enjoy taking part in 100k ultra challenges and trekking both in the UK and internationally.
