What is major trauma compensation?

Major trauma compensation is a financial award given to individuals who have suffered severe physical or psychological injuries as a result of an accident or incident. This compensation is intended to cover medical expenses, lost wages, and other costs associated with the trauma, as well as provide support for ongoing care and rehabilitation.

What is major trauma rehabilitation?

Major trauma rehabilitation is a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to help individuals recover from severe injuries or illnesses. It involves physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychological counselling, and other interventions to improve physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning. Helping you rebuild your life

You may have suffered major trauma through someone else’s negligence, as a result of a car or motorcycle accident, a cycling accident, whilst at work or in a public place.

The purpose of the compensation claims process is to help you rebuild your life as closely as possible to how it was before the accident. A solicitor’s obligation to act in your best interests should extend beyond securing reasonable financial compensation for you.

We have extensive experience of dealing with all different types of accident and injury, and we will carry out a thorough investigation into your claim for compensation. Your claim will help you and your family to secure much-needed funding to pay for medical help, rehabilitation, home adaptations and other essential support services.

Securing an appropriate level of compensation is often complex. However, you can be certain that from day one, we work tirelessly to not only get the financial support you deserve, but also to arrange the practical support you need at this difficult time. We will also be ready with helpful advice on how to cope with the effects of your traumatic accident, as part of the process of rebuilding your life.

Rehabilitation

Our main priority is to secure early payment to directly fund your rehabilitation programme and to put together a compensation package that will help you regain as much freedom, independence and normality as possible.

If you have suffered a major trauma, you will probably require care and support from numerous healthcare professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists. Psychological support is also very important.

We will put together a personalised rehabilitation programme, focussed on achieving the best possible outcome for you.

The Rehabilitation Code

The Rehabilitation Code 2015 (‘The Code’) is a voluntary code of practice that runs parallel to the civil claims process. The purpose of the code is to encourage both parties to work collaboratively and to focus on the injured party’s physical, psychological, social and vocational needs at the earliest opportunity.

If you have suffered a major trauma, then the earlier the intervention, the better the outcome. We will therefore aim for you to be assessed by a case manager as soon as possible, to identify and obtain funding for the most appropriate rehabilitation programme for you. Your case manager will carry out an initial assessment of the extent of your trauma and develop an appropriate care and rehabilitation plan.

Vocational Rehabilitation

Following a major trauma, returning to work or staying at work is often an important goal. Vocational Rehabilitation can help by providing a support programme designed to identify and overcome barriers to accessing, maintaining or returning to work.

We can arrange for an assessment by a Vocational Rehabilitation specialist, who will provide the tools and support you need to engage or re-engage in suitable employment.

Uninsured and untraced drivers

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) is a non-profit company set up by motor insurers to compensate victims of both uninsured and untraced drivers.

They also operate the Green Card System, which compensates UK citizens who are the victims of accidents involving foreign registered vehicles, either in the UK or abroad.

Securing compensation under the scheme can be complicated, but we can tell you whether you have a valid claim.

Criminal injuries compensation scheme

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme is a government-funded scheme intended to compensate the innocent victims of violent crime, whose lives have been seriously disrupted through no fault of their own.

If you or a member of your family has suffered major trauma as a victim of a violent crime, whether physical or psychological, you may be entitled to claim for compensation.

There are very specific conditions and time constraints which determine whether claims are considered, but we will advise you if you are eligible to claim under the scheme.
