About Paul
I have specialised exclusively in medical negligence claims throughout my 30 year career. Having defended such claims until 2011, I have a tactically advantageous understanding of the approach taken by defendants which helps me secure the best possible outcomes, and I have since secured over £65m in compensation for my clients. I often deal with catastrophic injuries and have a particular interest in birth injury and cauda equina claims.
I have a wide range of clients as adverse outcomes can affect anyone undergoing medical treatment. My role is to advise clients on the merits of a claim and guide them through the often complex and lengthy process towards a successful resolution. When liability can be established, I work hard to ensure that appropriate compensation is claimed so that my clients can continue, as far as possible, with their pre-existing lives. This often includes securing ‘interim’ compensation before a claim is formally resolved – this can enable the appointment of a case manager to provide practical help in getting care, therapy and rehabilitation put in place at home, and/or in appropriate cases, looking to adapt or re-house a claimant to account for their disability needs.
In appropriate cases, I work closely with our Court of Protection and property teams along with educational advisors, to ensure we work collaboratively and secure the best outcomes for clients.
Whilst some claims do proceed to trial, most are resolved either by mediation or more informal settlement meetings, both of which are encouraged to explore the possibility of an early, but still appropriate, resolution.
