At Moore Barlow, we take a Human First approach. Wellbeing isn’t an add-on here; it’s part of how we work everyday.
We want people to feel supported as a whole person, not just as an employee, and we know that looking after mental health is key to performing at your best.
Our approach is simple: make it easy to ask for help, create a culture where conversations about wellbeing are normal, and remove avoidable pressures. That’s why we became a signatory to the Mindful Business Charter, which promotes healthier working habits and underpins the way we work with one another day to day.
We also see wellbeing as closely linked to inclusion. When people feel able to bring their whole selves to work, they’re more likely to feel valued and do their best work.
We aim to create an environment where people with different needs and experiences are supported to thrive, with open conversations and practical support available when it’s needed.

- Wellbeing action plans. For longer-term conditions, we can agree tailored plans and involve occupational health specialists where useful.
- Trusted external resources. We also signpost organisations such as Mind and Samaritans, so people always know where to turn for extra support.

Building careers – Inside our training contract
At Moore Barlow, we are committed to developing the next generation of talented lawyers through a hands-on, supportive, and enriching training experience. Our trainees work alongside experienced professionals, gaining exposure to high-quality work from day one. In this video, hear directly from our trainees as they share their experiences, the challenges they’ve tackled, and the moments that have shaped their careers so far.
Everyday balance
Wellbeing isn’t only about moments of crisis, it’s about everyday habits. We take a balanced approach to workload and flexibility:
- Our hybrid and flexible working arrangements give you space to balance personal commitments with client needs.
- If you’d like something more formal, our flexible working policy sets out the process for requesting changes to hours or working style.
- For fee earners, our annual 1,200 chargeable hours target is deliberately set at a realistic level. Our bonus scheme is structured to reward good performance without encouraging overwork.
- Time recording guidelines are designed with wellbeing in mind, helping to support healthy working practices.
Leaders play an active role in this. They receive training, toolkits and wellness planning guidance, and are encouraged to hold open, two-way conversations about wellbeing with their teams.

A shared commitment
Wellbeing is part of the culture here, not just a policy. Our Wellbeing Committee brings together people from across the firm to champion mental health and shape initiatives. The group meets quarterly to share insights, drive new ideas and make sure our strategy stays aligned with our values and the principles of the Mindful Business Charter.
Throughout the year, we run awareness campaigns and events on subjects that matter, including menopause, men’s health, neurodiversity and financial wellbeing, alongside national campaigns such as Mental Health Awareness Week. This creates an open environment where people feel supported and included.
Support through life’s big moments
Life doesn’t always go to plan, and we’ll be there when it doesn’t. We offer paid compassionate leave, options for additional time off, and clear return-to-work support if you need it. Policies provide structure, but our approach is grounded in compassion and flexibility.
Supporting you every step of the way
