About Laura
As Learning and Development Manager, I am passionate about empowering individuals to reach their full potential through strategic, targeted, and inclusive learning experiences.
With a strong background in designing, implementing, and evaluating learning programs, I specialise in aligning employee development with business goals to drive performance, engagement, and long-term growth. I partner closely with teams across the organisation to identify skill gaps and create learning pathways that are both accessible and impactful.
Whether through leadership development, digital learning, or continuous professional development, my focus is always on supporting employees at every stage of their career journey. By fostering a culture of continuous learning, I help individuals grow with confidence and organisations thrive with competence.
My career in focus
I have always worked within professional services. Prior to Moore Barlow I worked in insurance, another law firm and banking. I enjoy working within professional services as it allows me to support highly skilled individuals in reaching their full potential through meaningful, tailored learning experiences.
Additionally, it combines high performance with a strong emphasis on people, allowing me to champion development while supporting a human-first culture. As a licensed Insights Discovery Practitioner, I enjoy watching people on the journey of self-discovery and how their colour preference order can explain why they might act in a certain way. It really opens up conversations around interacting with others and why sometimes it doesn’t work.
What motivates me?
As Learning and Development Manager in a law firm, I’m deeply motivated by the opportunity to support people in one of the most intellectually demanding and fast-paced professional environments. I believe in the power of lifelong learning — not just as a professional necessity in the legal field, but as a mindset that drives personal growth, resilience, and long-term success.
Working within a firm with a “human first” value aligns strongly with my own values. I’m passionate about creating learning experiences that are not only strategic and skill-building but also empathetic and inclusive. Whether developing early-career talent, supporting lawyers on their path to partnership, or enhancing the leadership capabilities of business services teams, I strive to ensure every individual feels seen, supported, and equipped to grow.
What drives me daily is the ability to connect learning with real human impact — helping people gain confidence, unlock their potential, and contribute meaningfully to the firm’s success. For me, it’s not just about professional development; it’s about fostering a culture where people are empowered to learn, lead, and thrive.
Outside of work
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my nephews, having recently moved closer to family. My wife and I are keen gamers so will often lose a weekend to a new update. I am a keen traveler and enjoy exploring new countries and cultures. I also love musical theatre and will find any reason to attend a show, making a day of it with a meal out and drinks with friends.

Sophie Winstanley began her journey at Moore Barlow as a Paralegal. She then secured a spot in the firm’s trainee programme, ultimately qualifying as a solicitor in the Major Trauma team.
