Supporting brain injury treatment, one (stormy) step at a time

On 7th June 2025 our Serious Injury Team braved stormy weather to walk 25 miles to raise £1,602.50 for the brain injury charity Smile4Wessex.

The walk started in the picturesque village of Hurstbourne Tarrant, before taking the Inkpen Beacon trail out to the Hampshire/Berkshire border following sections of both The Test Way and Wayfarers Walk.

Changeable weather

Whilst our intrepid team started in fine weather it quickly changed to one of the worst weather days of June with heavy rain, wind and thunder. Thankfully, our team had wet weather gear with them and were spurred on by messages of support from well-wishers.

Our Team was determined to complete the walk for Smile4Wessex which is the official charity of the Wessex Neurological Centre where money raised is invested in cutting edge equipment or research to treat those with brain injury.

Our Matthew Claxson, a Partner in the Serious Injury Team, who led the challenge said:

A shout out to the Team for completing this walk in such horrible weather conditions which we did in good spirits and the knowledge that every step brought us closer to raising money to help those being treated with a brain injury. A brain injury comes in all forms such as a tumour, stroke, aneurysm, and trauma which could affect any of us. We are lucky to have the Wessex Neurological Centre here when you need it most. Thank you to everyone who supported and sponsored this challenge.

Kathryn Grimes, Appeals Director from Smile4Wessex who met with Matthew said:

We are incredibly grateful to Moore Barlow for their continued support and delighted to see they were still Smiling for Smile4Wessex as they completed this brilliant challenge.

Our walkers were Michael Hayward, Juliette Moule, Simon Rackham and Matthew Claxson.
