Today, the 21st February 2024, Matteo Bottarelli, 44, was found guilty of attempted murder at Wood Green Crown Court after attacking colleagues with a mattock, a pickaxe-type implement, around the grounds of Central Middlesex Hospital in North-West London on 21st June 2023.
Trevor MacGuire, age 61, from Waterlooville was one of three victims attacked by Matteo Bottarelli, he has a lifelong brain injury as a result of head injuries caused by the attack.
Bottarelli, from Central Way in Brent, North-West London, was arrested by armed police at his home and charged with attempted murder. He originally pleaded guilty to lesser offences of wounding Gideon Tesfay and Trevor McGuire with intent to cause them grievous bodily harm, he also admitted affray by using or threatening unlawful violence to cause a person to fear for their safety and having an offensive weapon at Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal.
There are many things that I cannot do as a result of the injuries caused by this attack. So many things have been taken away from me and my family, but I try not to dwell on them too much. To get on with my life, I have to get on with the disabilities, and all I want to do now is try to put this to one side. This whole experience has been horrific, made worse by Mr Bottarelli’s refusal to plead guilty to attempted murder. The injuries that my husband has to live with and the trauma that this has caused will affect our family forever.
