Moore Blatch wins two prestigious national awards

Moore Blatch has won gold at both the Personal Injury Awards 2019 and UK Diversity Legal Awards 2019 in the same week.

On Wednesday, Moore Blatch’s Major Trauma team were winners in the Claimant Team of the Year category at the Personal Injury Awards. The awards, in their 12th year, celebrate the work of individuals and organisations working in the personal injury sector. The following day, Moore Blatch’s Partner and Head of Major Trauma, Trevor Sterling, was named Lawyer of the Year (private client) at the 10th UK Diversity Legal Awards. This award acknowledges lawyers who have stood out for their business impact, leadership and contribution to BAME diversity.

Trevor, who is celebrating his 35th anniversary in the legal profession, left school aged 17 with 4 ‘O’ Levels and has worked tirelessly throughout his career to help those in need. He was nominated having implemented diversity initiatives at Moore Blatch, including ensuring there is BAME representation on the renumeration committee and advocating unconscious bias training for senior colleagues. He has also been vocal about the solutions all firms can adopt to foster a culture of inclusion, having been published in several industry outlets highlighting improvements the legal profession can make.

Throughout his career he has worked on high-profile cases including representing victims of the Westminster attack and the families of victims of the Croydon tram crash. Alongside his legal work, he helped to establish and is currently Chair of the Mary Seacole Trust. Through the example of Mary Seacole, the Jamaican-born nurse who overcame racism to help treat soldiers during the Crimean war, the charity works to promote equality in public and private service.

During his time at Moore Blatch, Trevor established the Major Trauma team within the firm and has created the award-winning Major Trauma Service in collaboration with the NHS. The first of its kind, the unique service identifies the needs of a patient at the outset to ensure that, as well as any legal compensation claim, clients receive the additional advice and support that their circumstances require.

The Personal Injury Awards were held on the 27th November at Hilton Manchester Deansgate and the UK Diversity Legal Awards took place the following day at Leonardo Royal Hotel London St Paul’s.
