Legal Aid Agency – data breach

The LAA has identified a security breach within their system which may have given an unauthorised third party access to personal information. It is not yet known exactly what data and exactly which individuals may be affected but the personal data that may have been compromised is:

  • Contact details and addresses;
  • Dates of birth;
  • National ID numbers;
  • Criminal history;
  • Employment status and financial data such as contribution amounts;
  • Debts; and
  • Payments.

What should you do?

If you have applied for legal aid since 2010, it is important you remain vigilant and are aware of the following steps you can take to mitigate any unauthorised access to your information:

  • Be wary of any unexpected phone calls, emails or messages.
  • Do not share any details, in particular personal or financial information.
  • Change your passwords and ensure you do not use the same password for multiple accounts.
  • Do not share your passwords.
