About the role
What are we looking for?
We are looking for an ambitious newly qualified Solicitor (0-2 years PQE) to join our Contentious Trusts & Estates (CTE) team advising clients on all areas of contentious probate, trusts and wills.
We act for private individuals, trustees (both individuals and trust companies) and other fiduciaries, such as executors, deputies and attorneys across multiple jurisdictions in relation to a range of private wealth disputes. We also have experience acting for charities in relation to disputes that arise over testamentary gifts.
We see ourselves as trusted advisors carefully managing our clients and ensuring they are looked after.
To be considered for this role we’d welcome applications from those that have experience in contentious trusts and estates; but also, individuals who have general litigation experience, or a seat in this area of law. The important piece is the interest and desire to specialise in this area of law.

Key tasks will include:
• Management of key client relationships by supporting and complying with the client management and business development programmes in place in the Department.
• Management of a case load of client matters, ensuring that individual financial targets and objectives are met in line with the Departmental Business Plan.
• To achieve agreed financial targets in respect of fee income, chargeable time and cash recovery and to make a profitable contribution to the Department.
• To accurately record all chargeable and non-chargeable time.
• To ensure client work is dealt with promptly and clients are kept fully informed on progress and costs, in line with the laid down practice management standards of the firm.
• To comply with the requirements of the practice management system in terms of client monies held on account, billing procedures and credit control.
Client Management and Development
• To promote the Vision of the firm and its values when dealing with clients.
• To support the business development activities of the Department.
• To promote the firm and its areas of legal specialisation to new and existing clients.
• To attend Departmental marketing and business development events and other Practice promotional functions as requested.
People Management and Relationships
• To support other members of the CTE Department.
• To attend across office all office Department meetings.
• To ensure that standards of quality and the reputation of the Practice are always maintained.
• To maintain regular communication with the Head of Department and other members of the CTE Department.
• To maintain up to date knowledge of CTE law through relevant publications and updates, internal ‘know how’ sessions and to undertake as necessary appropriate external training to comply with the CPD requirements laid down by the SRA.
• To develop and improve internal knowledge management systems as appropriate to increase productivity and improve client service.
• To disseminate specialist knowledge to benefit work colleagues and clients.
• To comply with and conduct the business of the Firm in accordance with the standards and procedures laid down in the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SRA), the Rules on the Professional Conduct of Solicitors and all other statutory SRA rules and regulations in force for the conduct of a solicitor.
• To adhere to the HR Policies and Procedures.
What we look for:
• Qualified solicitor with experience contentious trusts, wills and probate; or an interest in this area of law and have completed a general litigation seat.
• Must have the ability to sustain a very high level of attention to detail
• Ability and willingness to provide excellent client service
• Ability to manage and develop staff
• Ability to develop business for the Department and Firm with networking and marketing
• Ability to process a large or complex caseload effectively and efficiently and meet deadlines
• IT skills
