For those concerned about being able to pay their taxes as a result of coronavirus, HMRC has set up a helpline which you can call for help and advice on your circumstances – 0800 0159 559.
Anyone who is self employed or owns a business can contact the helpline. HMRC has indicated that there are up to 2,000 call handlers available, and the possibilities they may explore with you include:
- agreeing an instalment arrangement;
- suspending debt collection proceedings; and
- cancelling penalties and interest where you have administrative difficulties contacting or paying HMRC immediately.
