Training contracts

Training contracts are a partnership between the trainee and the firm. We expect hard work, commitment, drive and a hunger to learn and develop. We will fully support you and help you achieve your aims.

Our well-established training programme means that you will work right across the business and experience the full range of legal disciplines that we cover.

You will benefit from a structured programme focused on providing you with the experience, support, education and hands on involvement that will prepare you for what lies ahead following qualification.

Your training will typically be organised as four seats, each lasting six months. The allocation of seats depends on demand and the commercial needs of each business team. We take your preferences into account when allocating seats wherever possible and ensure that you gain broad experience in both contentious and non-contentious work.

Most seats are based at our head office in Southampton however it may be possible to arrange seats in Richmond and Lymington depending on our business needs.

You will also work alongside experienced solicitors in teams including family, employment, personal injury, commercial litigation, real estate, private wealth, clinical negligence, corporate and commercial.

You will be given every opportunity to take on responsibility as your knowledge and experience increases. We will support you during your training, but we also expect you to take responsibility for your own learning and for developing additional skills. We encourage client contact early in your career.

We actively encourage development and involvement beyond the legal training – with business development, charity and other initiatives and marketing events being an integral and important part of your development.

You will receive performance reviews every 6 months (at the end of each seat) where you will discuss progress with your Training Co-ordinator. In return for your hard work and commitment, we provide:

  • Appropriate CPD training and access to relevant courses including the Professional Skills Course
  • A competitive salary above the Law Society guidelines
  • 25 days holiday each year
  • Group life assurance cover
  • Permanent health insurance
  • Pension where you pay 3% and we pay 5% of salary
