About the role

What are we looking for?

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Associate to join our award-winning Clinical Negligence team. We are ranked #1 in Chambers for team and individual level in this area of law.

To be considered for this role you must be a clinical negligence specialist and be approximately 5-6 years PQE. We will consider qualified Solicitors and Legal Executives. Ideally you will have experience or have trained at a Tier 1-3 firm/one that is ranked in Chambers and the Legal 500 for its clinical negligence team, on the Defendant panel for NHS Resolution or instructed by one of the Medical Defence Organisations (the MDU or the MPS) to successfully execute the high-level work, we do here at Moore Barlow. If you are medically trained that would be an advantage.

Key tasks will include:

We are looking for an Associate who is largely a self-sufficient fee earner, capable of working independently with partner supervision who can:

 ·       Complete work to high technical standard, demonstrate strategic acumen and achieves unarguably good results for clients

·       Meets a time recording target of 1,200 hours p.a. (for a five-day week)

·       Demonstrates a collegiate approach to coaching / mentoring junior staff and overall team efficiency

·       Promotes good relationships with medical charities, independent experts, counsel and other third parties

Independent work includes:

·       Conduct of a clinical negligence caseload of approximately 25 matters, across all specialities

·       Effective management of the associated financial transactions 


What we look for:

Experience / qualifications required · At least four years post-qualification experience of clinical negligence work, as a Legal Executive or Solicitor, in a recognised specialist team (Claimant or Defendant) · Ability to synthesise and analyse evidence · Ability to formulate clear written advice · Good basic word-processing skills · Previous employment by the NHS (an advantage but not a necessity) · Law Society or AvMA panel membership (an advantage but not a necessity) · Excellent written and oral communication skills · Excellent team-player who can mentor and support others
